Darren Paul

Born in Belfast in 1944, Darren Paul has always had a loving relationship with art. He has been painting from an early age and on leaving school he enrolled for a short time at Belfast technical College to further his love of fine art. He fondly remembers art classes under the tutelage of Desmond Kinney and attending lectures delivered by Neil Shawcross A retired businessman, Darren now lives with his wife and surrounded by family in a small picturesque village in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. He has been painting full time since 1991 in an atmosphere conducive to painting where inspiration comes unbidden and often. His excellent use of colour and confident handling of impasto brings about canvases that are alive with atmosphere, colour and tone. His skill lies in telling a story on canvas in his impressionistic and figurative style. He concentrates mainly on painting the seascapes, landscapes and townscapes of Ireland. However, location is secondary to the main purpose of capturing the moment, experience and mood of that elusive moment in time – the play of light on a sunlit pavement or the dappled reflections in water are quintessential of his work. Darren has exhibited successfully in Ireland in the following: Creeslough Gallery, Co. Donegal North Down Council, Bangor Queen’s University, Belfast Malone House, Belfast James Gallery, Bangor The Art Gallery, Hillsborough Carter, Belfast He also has works in public, private and corporate collections in countries throughout the world including Sweden, New Zealand, Australia, Belgium, United kingdom and of course Ireland.
