Our New Home!
Throatlake Fine Art has found a new home! It will take a lot of blood, sweat, tears and time to get everything in place and get up and running as our new place needs extensive work doing to it (rewired, replumbed, reconfigured,in fact re everything!) but it will absolutely be worth it. The view from our new terrace will be one of the best in Donegal!
The project will represent a rejuvenation of a well-established landmark in Portnablagh, namely Mullens Shop, somewhere where any one who knows the place will remember buying their sweeties, a Milford pan loaf or the Sunday Papers from the highly respectable Eammon Mullen and his family. Very, very happy memories and I really hope we can establish something similar and make some more lovely memories for a new generation visiting Portnablagh – hopefully they’ll also take away a lovely piece of art to remind them of us until the next time they visit!
As well as providing a greatly extended space and facilities in comparison to our current gallery, our new space will also allow us to showcase even more local artists and hopefully will become the chosen space for the Donegal art community to exhibit their incredible creativity, imagination and stunning landscape and characters. We also have amazing plans to extend our offering with some new areas of interest, such as jewellery, crafts etc., art classes for young and old with some of our artists, and hopefully a coffee shop with the most delicious coffee and tea as well as the all important cakes, scones, sticky buns. – our imagination knows no bounds!
It will take us some time to get there but we are really looking forward to the challenge and of course ultimately the finished article. Whilst all of this change is going on we will continue to exhibit a wide range of high quality and affordable art as usual in our current home in Creeslough, Co. Donegal, right on the main street, and look forward to seeing many of you over the next few months as you return to Donegal or, even better, visit us for the very first time – you’ll be assured of a very warm welcome!
Over the next few months I’ll be posting updates and developments and including some images of the work as it progresses and very much look forward to welcoming each and every one of you to Throatlake Fine Art in Portnablagh as soon as we possibly can.
